‘The Wild Escape’ is a national initiative led by the Art Fund and supported by the Arts Council England.
‘Taking place from January to July 2023, ‘The Wild Escape’ invites primary school children (ages 7-11) to find a favourite animal in their local museum and create an artwork imagining its ‘escape’ back to its natural habitat.
The pictures and stories children create will be brought together in a collective work of art that imagines a better future for the wildlife on our doorstep, launched online and in museums on Earth Day 2023.’
The Great Escape is made possible by lead support from Arts Council England’s National Lottery Project Grants, with additional support from Art Fund.
We are thrilled to be participating in this scheme and to be liaising with local schools.
Finding out about biodiversity and how to nurture the planet is central to this project and so local wildlife, agriculture, local history, topography and geology as well as local history will feature.
After inspiring planning meetings with Mrs Paskhin, head of St Michael’s, and Tracy Burdett, head of Tenterden Junior School, we have booked Anna Saunders, an art professional, as well as Helen Tozer, an experienced storyteller, to help us develop the project.
Anna’s website is at: https://helloannasaunders.wixsite.com/annasaundersart
Helen’s website is at: https://helentozer.uk/
This blog will be supporting ‘The Wild Escape’ Project and will feature: profiles of plants and animals, local history relating to the project, things to do, and it will also act as an online diary charting the project’s development.
